HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-29-1980 Council Meeting Minutes _ 8 April 29th, 1980 A Special meeting of the Canton City Council was held on April 29th, 1980 in Council Chambers. Mayor Crouch asked for roll call at 6:30 P.M. Present: Aldermen Kovachevich, Williams, Selfridge, Carl , Grant, Danner, Motsinger, Churchill . Absent: Alder- men Mazza, Horr, Clarke. The special meeting was for the purpose of reviewing the following departments budget: Police department, Water & Sewer, Water & Sewer Distribution, Civil Defense, Cemetary. Police Department. Under straight time for police, that total figure -does not reflect replacing an officer who is retiring. However, the City was informed by the Department of Transportation that if we do not replace that officer they will not fund one of the officers. The agreement was that we would not utilize the Traffic Control Grant to supplement the officers we currently have. Since the officer will not be replaced we have to add half of his salary and benefits so we have to reduce the Traffic Control Grant by $11 ,500.00 and add that to the net operating budget. Waste Water Treatment. Discussed their budget in depth. Water Plant. Discussed in depth. Water & Sewer Distribution. Discussed in depth. These departments were then discussed in an overall review. Motion by Alderman Danner,, second by Alderman Williams, that the budgets as proposed be accepted and that a corresponding increase of 21% across the board and the rates as they stand, be utilized to generate effecient revenues to take care of the needs of J the operation of the department, Lengthy discussion. Voice vote, motion carried. Council meeting adjourned at 9:18 P.M. for an executive session. Reconvened in executive session at 9:25 P.M. A copy of these minutes are on file. Purpose of the session was personnel . Adjourned executive session at 10:00 P.M. Reconvened in open session. Discussed the greenwood cemetary budget. Council suggested they increase the sale of lots to off set their budget. The cemetary board is meeting with Finance & Personnel at their next meeting. Mayor Crouch suggested approving the Civil Defense budget as presented. Mayor Crouch will put everything togather and give a re-cap to all Council members. ADJOURNMENT. Motion by Alderman Kovachevich, second by Alderman Churchill to adjourn. Voice vote, motion carried. Council adjourned at 10:37 P.M. CIT CLERK APPROVED. cc' MAYOR
