W-FJZEAS, due to the infestation of the European mussel in the
United States, and their rapid advancement across the country, the
City of Canton has found it necessary to issue a policy for Canton
Lake; and,
VVI-F~Ei4S, the Lake, Buildings and Grounds Committee and the
Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that it is necessary
and in the best interest of the City of Canton to develop and
approve a policy for the control of zebra mussels in Canton Lake;
and,
the Canton City Council has made a similar
determination.

1. That Title 8, Chapter 11, Section 7 of the Canton Municipal
Code shall be amended to include the following:
"8-11-7.6: Zebra Mussel Policy
Anyone who in the past seven (7) days has had their
boat in the Illinois River or any other waters other than Canton
Lake, must, before launching in the lake, wash their boat and
trailer with a high pressure washer and visually inspect the
underside of both for zebra mussels. Live wells and bilge areas
must also be inspected.

Failure to comply with this policy for zebra mussels
will result in a fine of $200.00 for each and every incident and the
current boat sticker will be revoked for the remainder of the year."
2. That a copy of Title 8, Chapter 11, Section 7.6 shall be
provided to anyone purchasing a boat sticker for Canton Lake at the
time of purchase.
3. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
imrediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of
Canton, Illinois.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 2nd day of February,
1993, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen May, Chapman, Meade, Bohler, Steck, Sarff, Coay, Molleck.
NAYS: None.
