AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR STOP SIGNS ALONG EASTBOUND AND WESTBOUND PINE
STREET AT THE INTERSECTION OF AVENUE C IN THE CITY OF CANTON, FULTON
COUNTY, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the citizens residing in the neighborhood of Avenue C and Pine Street have presented a
request for a stop sign at Avenue C and Pine Street in the City of Canton; and
WHEREAS, after hearing arguments by the area residents and examining a petition requesting a stop
sign at Avenue C and Pine Street, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that it is necessary and in
the best interests of the citizens of Canton, Illinois to place stop signs on eastbound and westbound Pine Street
at the intersection of Avenue C in the City of Canton, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That a stop sign shall be placed along eastbound Pine Street at the intersection of Avenue C and that every
driver of a motor vehicle approaching said intersection from the West going eastbound on Pine Street shall
bring the vehicle under his or her control to a complete stop before entering said intersection and shall only
then proceed when a safe interval occurs in traffic.
2. That a stop sign shall be placed along westbound Pine Street at the intersection of Avenue C and that every
driver of a motor vehicle approaching that intersection from the East going westbound on Pine Street shall
bring their vehicle under his or her control to a complete stop before entering said intersection and shall only
then proceed when a safe interval occurs in traffic.
3. That any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon conviction or plea, be subject to a fine of not less
than Seventy-five ($75.00) nor more than Five Hundred ($500.00) dollars for each such offense.
4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days after its passage by the City Council of the
City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approval by the Mayor thereof, and publication in pamphlet form as
provided by law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 5th

AYES: Aldermen Schenck, Sarff, West, Ihnes, Strandberg.
