AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR HANDICAPPED PARKING ON THE WEST SIDE OF
SOUTH FIRST AVENUE AND SOUTH OF EAST HICKORY STREET, IN THE CITY OF
CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that due to the amount of
parking on South First Avenue in front of South Park United Methodist Church, it is necessary and in
the best interests of the citizens of Canton, Illinois to have two (2) handicapped parking spaces on the
west side of South First Avenue and south of Hickory Street, in the City of Canton, Illinois, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That the two (2) handicapped parking spaces shall be placed on the west side of South First
Avenue,south of Hickory Street and that every driver of a motor vehicle will refrain from
parking any vehicle under his or her control in said area, unless the required handicapped
plaque /license is on said vehicle.
2. That any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon conviction or plea, be subject to a fine
of not less than Two Hundred Fifty dollars ($250.00) for each such offense.
3. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days after its passage by the City
Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approval by the Mayor thereof, and
publication in pamphlet form as provided by law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting this
2nd day of December, 2014 upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Ellis, Justin Nelson, Lovell, West, Putrich, Picket, Jim Nelson
NAYS: None
ABSENT: Alderwoman Hale
