AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 5, CHAPTER 1, SECTION 1 OF THE
CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that it is
necessary and in the best interest of the City of Canton to amend Title 5, Chapter 1,
Section 1 of the Canton Municipal Code; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That the City Council hereby finds the foregoing recitals to be fact.
2. That Title 5, Chapter 1, Section 1 shall be amended to read as follows:
"5-1-1: DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED: There
is hereby established an executive department of the
Municipal government of the City which shall be known as
the Fire Department, and shall consist of one Chief of the
Fire Department, three (3) assistant chiefs, five (5)
lieutenants, and seven (7) firemen. When any member of
the fire department who occupies one of the foregoing
positions becomes inactive such that it appears that a fizll-
time appointment will be necessary so as to fill an ongoing
vacancy and/or an anticipated requirement, then the Police
& Fire Commission may, at its discretion, appoint an officer
in a full-time capacity to fill such a vacancy. "
3. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton and approved by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a
regular meeting this 5th day of November 1996.
