ORDINANCE NO. 15 2 3
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 8, CHAPTER 10, SECTION 7 OF THE
CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that it is
necessary and in the best interest of the City of Canton to amend Title 8, Chapter 10,
Section 7 of the Canton Municipal Code; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That the City Council hereby finds the foregoing recitals to be fact.
2. That Title 8, Chapter 10, Section 7 shall be amended to read as follows:
"8-10-7: No water shall be turned on for use in or
upon any premises until an application therefore in writing
has been made for that purpose and filed with the City
Water Department stating the purpose for which the water
is to be used. In all instances the owner of the property
shall be responsible for payment to the City for the water
service to the premises. Should the City become aware that
the turn off request by a landlord is being utilized as a
punitive matter in a dispute with a tenant who is current in
payment of his or her water charges, the City will not
become an arbitrator of the dispute, but may in its discretion
deny or grant such request."
3. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton and approved by the Mayor thereof.

PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a
regular meeting this 5th day of November , 1996.

Shores, May.
NAYS: None ,
