AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 7-1-6-5 (LIEN AND PERSONAL JUDGMENT) OF THE
CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, Section 7-1-6-5 (Lien and Personal Judgment) of the Canton Municipal Code currently
states, in part, "the per hour cost of such labor will be a minimum of seventy five dollars ($75.00) and any rate
greater than seventy five dollars ($75.00) per hour must be established by the City Council on a yearly basis."
WHEREAS, the City Council has not increased the labor costs since 1992 (Ordinance 1358); and
WHEREAS, due to contractual increases in labor costs and the substantial increase in the cost of fuel
since 1992, the City's actual out-of-pocket costs to cut weeds and grass and remove litter from private property
is in excess of seventy five dollars ($75.00) per hour; and
WHEREAS, the City's actual out-of-pocket costs to cut weeds and grass and remove litter from private
property is one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) per hour; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Committee has determined that it is necessary and in the best interests of
the citizens of Canton, Illinois to amend Section 7-1-6-5 (Lien and Personal Judgment) to increase the costs
from seventy five dollars ($75.00) per hour to one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) per hour; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That the foregoing recitals of fact are found to be true.
2. That Section 7-1-6-5 (Lien and Personal Judgment) of the Canton Municipal Code be
amended, in part, to read as follows:
"The per hour cost of such labor will be a minimum of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00)
and any rate greater than one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) per hour must be established by
the City Council on a yearly basis."
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 17th
day of June , 2008 upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Strandberg, Ihnes, Nidiffer, L~lest, Sarff, Berardi, Schenck.
NAYS: None .
ABSENT: Alderman Sonya I~ewi.s .
