AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR PAY INCREASES AND CERTAIN OTHER BENEFITS FOR
THE FISCAL YEAR COMMENCING MAY, 1972.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS�:
SECTION 1. Each full time police officer and fireman of the
City of Canton, Illinois , excepting of the Police Chief and Fire
Chief, shall receive and be paid the sum of �50.

his present clothing allowance, said sum to be P� rsonlshalltalso he
first pay period in the month of June ; each such pe
receive, by payment therefor on his behalf, the base rate or charge,
in the amount of �5.50 each month, for and on account of not more
than one telephone each full month actually and continuously maintained
in service at his residence house. Further, each full time police
officer and fireman of the City of Canton, Illinois , excepting of the
Police Chief and Fire Chief, shall receive an increase in his base
salary or service in the amount of five per centum (5%) of his present
base wage or salary LESS the sum of $116.00. laW each full time
SECTION 2. Unless otherwise prohibited by ,
employee, official or officer of the City of Canton, Illinois , other
than those benefited by the provisions of the preceding section, shall
receive an increase in his base salary or service in the amount of
five per centum (5%) of his present base wage or salary.
SECTION 3. Each part-time employee of the City of Canton,
Illinois shall receive an increase of five per centum (5%) per hour
above his present hourly rate for each hour he performs work for
said City.
SECTION 4. Each full time employee, official or officer of the
City of Canton , Illinois , excepting of inembers of the Fire Department ,
who works a regular eight-hour night shift as a part of his regular
work week, in addition to the increase in his base salary or service
provided in the applicable Section 1 or 2 hereof, shall receive an
additional increase in his base salary or service in the amount of
two per centum (2%) of his present base wage or salary for such eight-
hour night shift actually worked. For the purpose of this Section the
term "night shift " shall mean any regular eight-hour period actually
worked between the hours of three o ' clock in the afternoon of any day
and eight o ' clock in the morning of the day thereafter immediately
succeedin g.
SECTION 5. That, in addition to the increases provided in
Sections 1 and 3 hereof, each full time employee, official or officer
of the City of Canton, Illinois shall be paid and receive a "holiday
pay" consisting, in each instance, o f eig h t-hours re gular pay applicable
to each such person, for each of the following seven holidays , to-wit :
New Years Day ; Memorial Day ; Fourth of July ; Labor Day; Veterans Day ;

In the event any such employee, official or officer actually works an
eight-hour period on any of the holidays herein named as a part of his
regular work week, such person shall be paid and receive a yet additional

SECTION 6. That , in addition to the vacation period or periods
elsewhere provided each full time employee, official or

regular pay applicable to such person, provided, however, that such
person shall not perform his regular work or render his regular
services for the City during such week. Further, notwithstanding any
Ordinance, custom or practice to the contrary, no employee, official
or officer of the City of Canton, Illinois who is or hereafter may

SECTION 7 . The term "present base wage or salary

in the event that said appropriation ordinance does not provide for a

"present base wage or salary" shall then mean and have reference to
that pay, based on a 40-hour work week, which would have and has been
paid to the applicable employee during the said fiscal year 1971-1972
without reference to any other fee, pay, wage or benefits of a monetary
nature, including overtime , which may or might have accrued to such

employee by reason of this employment by and with the City of Canton,
Illinois during said fiscal year.
SECTION 8. That Ordinances numbered 337 and and th etsameCity,
respectively passed May 4, 1971 and June l, 1971 , be
hereby are, repealed.
SECTION 9. That the City of Canton, Illinois shall PaY o�nted
and on behalf of its participating employees and elected and app
licable premiums under the group insurance program

presently in force between the City and the existsig g pfor and on
addition thereto , the City of Canton , Illinois shall pay
behalf of such participating employees who may hereafter become retired
and entitled to monthly benefits under a pension plan of this City,
commencin g at his age of 62 years, all applicable premiums of his
under said group insurance plan, provided, however, the amount so paid
for and on behalf of any such retired employee shall not exceed �25 .00
per month and, provided further, such an employee,
if first hired after
the date hereof,must have retired with a minimum of fifteen years

SECTION 10. The raises or increases in salary
provided, together with all other payment benefits herein provided,
shall be effect on the first Monday in May , 1972.
