AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR SPECIAL PAY TO CERTAIN MEMBERS OF THE
FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS FOR
SPECIAL SERVICES.
WHEREAS, members of both the Fire and Police Departments
of the City of Canton, Illinois are sometimes required, in instances
of vacation and sickness, to perform the services and assume the
responsibilites of a rank or grade above their regular appointment;
and,
WHEREAS, under these circumstances, it seems appropriate
that such services and responsibility should be remunerated by
payment consonant with the higher rank or grade,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT AND IT HEREBY IS ORDAINED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS AS FOLLOWS:
1. That, whenever, because of vacation or sickness, any
member of the Fire or Police Departments of the City of Canton,
Illinois, sha ;l, for a period of time comprising not less than a
full weeks pay, perform, as a part of his assigned duty, the
work or a position, grade or rank higher and above that of his
regular assignment and as to which a pay greater than his regular
assignment is provided, then and in that event, such member shall be
paid, for such time actually served, the amount provided for that
higher position, grade or rank.
2. That the provisions hereof shall be retroactive to the
beginning of the fiscal year 1971.
3. That certification of services which pay is claimed
by reason hereof shall be done by the head of the appropriate
department in writing prior to the payment herein provided.
4. That this Ordinance shall be effective on passage by
the City Council and approval by the Mayor.
