HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #414.. R w ORDINANCE NO. (AN ORDINANCE CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL A VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF ALDERMAN OF THE FOURTH WARD.) WHEREAS, Leo Berry has heretofore resigned as Alderman of the Fourth Ward of the City of Canton, Illinois so that a vacancy in the Office of Alderman for said Ward was thereby occasioned and now subsists; and, WHEREAS, at the time of the occurrence of said vacancy the unexpired term was more than 27 months in length and, by law, would have ended on the first Tuesday in May, 1975; and, WHEREAS, it is necessary to provide for a special election to fill the vacancy of Alderman of the Fourth Ward, occasioned as aforesaid, and for the remainder of the term expiring on the first Tuesday of May, 1975. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT AND IT HEREBY IS ORDAINED by the corporate authorities of the City of Canton, Illinois as follows: That a special election is hereby called to fill the vacancy in the office of Alderman of the Fourth Ward of this City, occasioned by the resignation of Leo Berry as Alderman of said Fourth Ward, and for the unexpired term thereof now subsisting and ending on the first Tuesday of May, 1975. That the general election therefor shall be on the third Tuesday of August, 1973. That the primary therefor shall be the last Tuesday in June, 1973. That all petitions for nomination therefor shall be filed in the office of the City Clerk of this City notmore than 69 days nor less that 59 days prior to the date of the primary hereinabove established. That the City Clerk shall give notice of the primary election herein contemplated not less than 15 days prior to the earliest time nominating petitions may be filed, as hereinabove provided, and to do all such other acts in the same relative times as would be required by law in instances of regular elections for the office of Alderman.
