(AN OR,DIN.ANCE AMIIVDING ORDINANCE N0. 282 (BEIlV� AN ORDINANCE CREATIN�
AND ESTABLISHING THE CANTON BETTERMIIVT COMMISSION) AND REPEALIN�
ORDINANCE NQ. 423 (BEIN� AN ORDINANCE AMF��iDING SAID ORDINANCE N0. 282)
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON,
ILLINOIS :
SECTION 1. That Section 1 of Ordinance No. 282 be and the
same hereby is amended to read as follows :
"`1. COMPOSITION. The Canton Betterment Commission
shall be composed of not more than twenty-one adult
citizens of the City of Canton, Illinois, who shall
serve without pay, fourteen of whom shall be appointed
two each from and f or each Ward and seven of whom shall
be appointed from and within the City at-large. Insofar
as practicable, appointments to and composition of the
Canton Betterment Commission shall comprise an equal
number of inen and women. The manner of appointment
and terms of office shall be as hereinafter set forth. "
SECTION 2. That section l.a. of Ordinance No. 282 be and the
same hereby is amended to read as follows :
"a. MANNER OF APPOINTMFNT AND TERMS OF OFFICE. Members
of the Commission shall be nominated and appointed by
the Mayor from each Ward after consultation with .and
the approval of the two Aldermen of each respectf��rd
and subject to the approval and confirmation of the
City Council. Members of the Commission shall be
nominated and appointed by the Mayor from and within
the City at-large subject to the approval and confirmation
of the City Council. All persons hereafter appointed to
the Commission shall serve for a term of two years
computed from the first Tuesday in the month of May
which has or will occur closest to the time of appoint-
ment. No person may serve for more than four consecutive
terms and membership to the Commission shall be automati-
cally forf eited by any member who, for personal reasons
other than illness , shall have been absent from three
consecutive meetings of the Commission. "
SECTION 3. That the first sentence of Ordinance No. 282 be
and the same hereby is amended to read as follows :
r`3. DUTIES : The Canton Betterment Commission shall meet
not less than once each month, wit h the exception of the
month of July and August, of each year in implementation
of the purposes of its creation. . . . "
SECTION 4� That Ordinance No. 423, passed May l, 1973 be, and
the same hereby is repealed.
SECTION 5. That this Ordinance be in full force and effect
upon its passage by the City Council and approval by the Maynr.
