WHEREAS, Ordinance 947 was adopted on September 7, 1982, which provided
restrictions for the allowance of chickens within the city limits of Canton, Illinois;
WHEREAS, Ordinance 947 was codified and adopted as part of the Canton Municipal
Code at Title 6 (Police Regulations),Chapter 4 (Animals) Section 2G (General Regulations and
Licensing);
WHEREAS, the Legal & Ordinance Committee has determined that Title 6 (Police
Regulations), Chapter 4 (Animals) Section 2(G) (General Regulations and Licensing) should be
amended to clarify its meaning;
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has reviewed the proposed amendment
and concur that it is necessary and in the best interest of the administration of the City of Canton,
its employees and citizens;
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COiJNTY, ILLINOIS as follows:
l. That Title 6 (Police Regulations), Chapter 4 (Animals) Section 2 (General
Regulations and Licensing) of the Canton Municipal Code shall be amended insofar
as Section 6-4-2(G) is concerned as follow:
6-4-2: GENERAL REGULATIONS AND LICENSING:
(G) It shall be unlawful to keep or to have any goats, cattle, rabbits, chickens or
other barnyard or farm animals, within one hundred fifty feet (150') of any residence,
other than the residence of the person so keeping or having such animals, within the City
limits. It shall be unlawful to keep any live swine or pigs within the City limits.
If housed within the City limits, no person shall cause or allow any stable, coup,
cage, or place where any animal is or may be housed, to become unclean or a nuisance.
PASSED by the City Council of the City Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, at a regular
meeting this 17th day of June 2014 upon roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Justin Nelson, John Lovell, Craig West, David Pickel
NAYS: Alderman Tad Putrich, Alderman Jim Nelson
ABSENT: Alderman Gerald Ellis
