AN ORDINANCE RENUMBERING TITLE 8 CHAPTER 18 AND
AMENDING THE GARBAGE SERVICE CHARGE
WHEREAS, the city has determined it to be in the best interest to organize garbage service
charges (title 8 chapter 18) with other garbage related legislation in title 7 of the code.
WHEREAS, the Finance Committee of the City of Canton has determined that it is necessary
and in the best interest of citizens of the City of Canton to amend what will now be Title 7,
Chapter 3, Article A, Section 1 (Garbage Service Charge) of the Canton Municipal Code; and
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDANINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
WHEREAS, the City of Canton is desirous of exercising its authority to establish rates for
garbage service; and
WHEREAS, in furtherance of its statutory powers to amend the Municipal Code for the City of
Canton, the City Council and the Mayor, have determined that it is the best interest of the City to
amend the fees for garbage service.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the Mayor and the City Council for the city of
Canton, Illinois, as follows:
Title 8 chapter 18, garbage service charges is here by renumbered to title 7, chapter 3, article A
with all legislation contained therein remaining unchanged and in affect as originally established
by ordinance.
Title 8 chapter 18 will be reserved for future use.
1. The City of Canton Municipal Code, Title 7 entitled "Health And Sanitation" is
amended by amending Article 3A entitled "Garbage Service Charge" Section 1
entitled"Service Charge"to establish new rates and shall read as follows:
The Canton City Council hereby establishes a service charge to finance the establishment
and maintenance of plants for the collection and disposal of garbage or solely for the
collection or disposal of garbage by a service charge of twelve dollars ($12.00)per month
to be collected from persons receiving such service. This service charge shall cover the
collection of garbage as set forth in Title 7, Chapter 3, Section 4 of this Code. Stickers for
bulk items that do not fit within containers shall be $10.00 per sticker.
