A Council Meeting of the Canton City Council was held on January 7, 2014 at 6:30pm in the
Council Chambers,The Donald E. Edwards Way-50 North 4th Avenue, Canton, Illinois 61520.

STEVE CAPE----STREET SAFETY
Steve Cape addressed the Council regarding his concerns with street safety at Hickory Street
and South Main. Jason Strandberg has been working on the issue and considered speed bumps
or a flashing light around the sign. The four way red light hanging directly above the
intersection would be another option to prevent accidents. This has been a high accident area
within the City where approximately 33 accidents have occurred within the last five years.
Jason Strandberg explained that he has been working on some plans for this intersection.
Tomorrow public works is going to get a blinking yellow light to warn of the stop ahead. The
solar LED lights can be placed on top of the stop sign at a cost of approximately $1600.00. The
rumble strips can be placed on the roadway in the spring.

The motion carried by voice vote and was unanimous.
