Safety Committee Meeting Minutes

WWTP Supervisor Joe Carruthers, WTP Supervisor Greg Pollitt, Nancy Mackey, City Clerk Diana Pavley
Fire Chief Keith Frank, Deputy Chief Rick Nichols, Community Service Director Jason Strandberg
SAFETY MANUAL
The committee met to discuss the changes to the safety manual. Several sections were reviewed for
language changes. Discussion took place regarding removing page 23 of the manual that references a
sub-committee and training for those individuals. Rick Nichols and Greg Pollitt wanted to remove this
section because they felt it created "over-kill". The executive committee meets on a regular basis, and
they didn't feel it would be necessary to have a second layer of people involved. Chief Frank explained
that he would be very careful about removing this section and believes it was put there for a reason. He
suggested checking with OSHA and the insurance company to see if there are any legal requirements
before removing this section.
Motion and second were made by Greg Pollitt/Joe Carruthers to remove this section of the safety
committee.
Further discussion took place regarding the section. Jason Strandberg stated that he would check with
the insurance company and Keith Frank will check with OSHA prior to removing this.
The motion was revoked.
Greg Pollitt indicates that he has only reviewed up to page 35 of the safety manual and would like
additional time before it is sent to Council for consideration.
City Clerk Diana Pavley reported that a few accidents took place over the last month and were only
minor. One Public Works employee had the door to a truck swing open from the wind and hit his
shoulder. He didn't receive any treatment at the time, and has not complained of any further pain. Two
employees at the fire department submitted claims for bodily fluids being splashed on their face and
around their eyes.
Discussion took place regarding having a city doctor that employees would go to in the event of
accidents/injuries. Diana will check with Graham Medical to see if a doctor would be available.
The next scheduled meeting will be held on July 1, 2013 at 10:OOam
Motion and second were made by Rick Nichols/Greg Pollitt to adjourn.
