HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution #3558RESOLUTION NO. 3558 A RESOLUTION CALLING UPON STATE AND/OR FEDERAL AUTHORITIES TO PROVIDE ATTENDANTS AT INTERSTATE HIGHWAY REST STOPS WHEREAS, a former Canton resident, HEATHER TOMICH, died on January 18, 2001 as a result of a criminal attack at an I-55 Rest Stop South of Pontiac, Illinois; and, WHEREAS, many states and other jurisdictions now provide security for users of highway rest stops; and, WHEREAS, the presence of a security person around the clock would either eliminate or sharply reduce the possibility of criminal activity at highway rest stops. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows: 1. That the City of Canton calls upon state and federal authorities to implement immediately a program to provide around the clock security personnel at interstate highway rest stops. 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof. PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, at a regular meeting this 20"' day of February, 2001, upon a roll call vote as follows: AYE5• Aldermen Nblleck, Hartford, Sar_.ff, Phillips, Nidiffer, Meade, • Shores, May.
