AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SPENDING AUTHORITY OF SECTIONS 1-5-19
AND 1-8-6 OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, the City of Canton last amended the spending limits for the Mayor and
Department heads in 2005 via Ordinance No. 1845; and
WHEREAS, on February 21, 2012, the City Council adopted a comprehensive
purchasing policy outlining new spending limits in line with today's municipal business
requirements; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is necessary and in the best interest
of the citizens of Canton to amend the Canton Municipal Code to reflect the changes adopted in
the purchasing policy.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Canton,
Illinois, as follows:
SECTION 1: That Chapter 5(Mayor) of Title 1(Administration) is hereby amended as
follows:
1-5-19: EXPENDITURE OF CITY FUNDS:
The following amount shall be the maximum amount of city funds which may be expended for
unbud~eted expenses by the mayor on official business without prior council approval:

Mayor ~ ~ $3,000.00
The following amount shall be the maYimum amount of city funds which may be expended for
unbudgeted emergenc~penditures by the mayor on official business for the city without prior
council approval
Mayor' ;$10,000.00
SECTION 2: That Chapter 8(City Personnel) of Title 1(Administration) is hereby
amended to read as follows:
1-8-6: DEPARTMENT HEADS:
(A) Expenditure Of City Funds: The following amount shall be the maximum amount of city
funds which may be expended for unbudgeted expenses by department heads on official
business for the city without prior council approval:
