AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE POSITION OF PUBLIC WORKS
DIRECTOR FOR THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the City has established the practice of employing an engineer firm
to oversee the technical engineering work and does not maintain a full time city engineer;
and,
WHEREAS, overseeing of all the Public Works Department of the City of
Canton will be best served by an appointed full time management employee; and,
WHEREAS, based upon these factors, it has been determined that it is in the best
interest of the City of Canton to create an appointive position of Public Works Director to
be filled by the Mayor; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
1. The City of Canton establishes the position of Public Works Director.
2. The Public Works Director will supervise the Street Superintendent,
System Maintenance, Water Superintendent, Wastewater Superintendent,
and the Zoning Officer.
3. The position of Public Works Director will be a full time position.
4. The Public Works Director will be required to attend all City Council and
Committee meetings.
5. The Mayor shall appoint the position of Public Works Director with
concurrence of the City Council.
6. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton and approved by the
Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a
regular meeting this 17th day of December ~ 20 02 , upon a roll call
vote as follows:
