HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-03-1989 Council Minutes 46~ A regular meeting of the Canton City Council was held on January 3rd, 1989 in council chambers. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE OPENED THE MEETING FOLLOWED BY THE INVOCATION GIVEN BY ALDERMAN KEVIN MEADE. MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 21 SPECIAL MEETING. Motion by Alderman Steck, second by Alderman May, the minutes of November 21st Special meeting be accepted and placed on file. Voice vote, motion carried. MINUTES OF DECEMBER 6th MEETING. Motion by Alderman Sarff, second by Alderman Bohler, the minutes of December 6th be accepted and placed on file. Voice vote, motion carried. MINUTES OF DECEMBER 20th, MEETING. Motion by Alderman Zilly, second by Alderman May, the minutes of December 20th be accepted and placed on file. Voice vote, motion carried. O COMMITTEE REPORTS: ~ The Mechanical Committee did not hold any meetings due ~ to the holidays. _ ~ Motion by Alderman Bohler, second by Alderman Meade, the Q approval be granted to David Gould for a decorative wooden monsard canopy at 48 West Elm Street. Discussion. Alderman Zilly said since council has had several request for signs and awnings that are larger than the present ordinance allows, we should review the present ordinance at the next committee meeting. Voice vote, motion carried. Alderman Bohler stated that a very strong odor has been persistent in the area of Tamarack and South Main Street. Wastewater Supt. Larry Dutton will be researching the cost and ideas to eliminate the odor, and to be discussed at the next Legal & Ordinance Committee meeting. COMMUNICATIONS FROM MAYOR EDWARDS. After the December 20th council meeting where two alternate bids were previously opened and one was received and not opened, one of those three bidders is requesting the bid be opened. The mayor and city attorney both stated there was no problem in opening the bid. Motion by Alderman Sarff, second by Alderman Bohler, the alternate bid from G-M Mechanical for three furnaces be opened and read. Voice vote, motion carried. The city clerk opened the bid and showed that the bid was still sealed. Bidder was G-M Mechanical. One Lennox Furnace bid price $3,700. Two Lennox Furnaces bid price $7,100. Three Lennox Furnaces bid price $10,100. Complaints have been received of a bright light at the car wash on E. Linn Street. Police Chief Robert Molleck reported that light has been looked at by the CIPS and they'll be putting a work order on it right way. Motion by Alderman Bohler, second by Alderman May, the appointment of Rick Weber as a volunteer fireman be confirmed. Discussion. Mayor Edwards said he was recommended by Fire Chief Robert DeRenzy. Voice vote, motion carried. 46~ CONTINIIED January 3rd, 1989 ' OLD BUSINESS: ~RDINANCE - PROVIDING FOR THE MANNER OF SALE OF CERTAIN REAL PROPERTY OWNED BY THE CITY. Second readinq, read by title. Motion by Alderman Sarff, second by Alderman Kovachevich, the ordinance be placed on its passaqe. Roll call. AYES - Aldermen Chapman, May, Bohler, Meade, Sarff, Steck, Zilly, Kovachevich. NAYS - None. 8 AYES 0 NAYS 0 ABSENT. Motion carried. Ordinance beinq #1227. ORDINANCE - ANNEXING CERTAIN TERRITORY TO THE CITY OF CANTON AND OWNED BY DON ROBERTSON. Second readinq, read by title. Motion by Alderman Steck, second by Alderman Sarff, the ordinance be placed on its passaqe. Roll call. AYES - Aldermen Kovachevich, Zilly, Steck, Sarff, Meade, Bohler, May, Chapman. NAYS - None. 8 AYES 0 NAYS 0 ABSENT. Motion carried. Ordinance being #1228. ORDINANCE - ANNEXING CERTAIN TERRITORY TO THE CITY OF CANTON OWNED BY JACK FURGERSON. Second readinq, read by title. Motion by Alderman Kovachevich, second by Alderman Chapman, the ordinance be placed on its passage. Roll call. AYES - Aldermen Chapman, May, Bohler, Meade, Sarff, Steck, Zilly, Kovachevich. NAYS - None. 8 AYES 0 NAYS 0 ABSENT. Motion carried. Ordinance beinq #1229. NEW BUSINESS: Motion by Alderman Sarff, second by Alderman May, to qrant Joseph DeRudder a Class A Tavern license for Motel Siesta as recommended by the Liquor Commission. (The second paqe - of the corporation papers is needed before a license can be issued as well as a$500 bond made payable to the City of Canton). Roll call. Motion by Alderman Bohler, second by Alderman May, to qo into executive session. Voice vote, motion carried. Council recessed at 6:50 p.m. The executive minutes are on file in the clerk's office.
