AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 6-9-10 (AUXILIARY POLICE FORCE; POWERS) OF
THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, on November 7, 2006, the City Council voted to amend section 6-9-10 of the
Canton Municipal Code to read as follows "POWERS: In addition to the foregoing duties,
auxiliary policemen, when on duty, shall have the powers now specified and which may hereafter
be specified in the legislative enactments of the State of Illinois. Auxiliary policemen do not have
the power to act as conservators of the peace"; and
WHEREAS, although the minutes from November 7, 2006 identify said ordinance as
being No. 1888, it is not reflected in the City Clerk's official register of ordinances;
WHEREAS, as the Ordinance was never codified and a signed copy cannot be located
among the City Clerk's official records, the text of the published municipal code remains
unchanged;
WHEREAS, the Public Safety Committee has determined that it is necessary and in the
best interests of the citizens of Canton, Illinois to pass another ordinance amending Section 6-9-10
(Auxiliary Police Force; Powers) of the Canton Municipal Code to allow for changes in the
official text; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That Section 6-9-10 (Auxiliary Police Force; Powers) of the Canton Municipal Code
again be hereinafter amended to read as follows:
POWERS: In addition to the foregoing duties, auxiliary policemen, when on duty, shall
have the powers now specified and which may hereafter be specified in the legislative
enactments of the State of Illinois. Auxiliary policemen do not have the power to act as
conservators of the peace.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 2°a
day of November, 2010 upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen West, Sarff, Reed, Schenck, Hartford, Pickel, Rivero, Ellis
NAYS: None
ABSENT: None
