ORDINANCE NO. 1771
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING FEES FOR THE CITY OF CANTON
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that it is necessary and
in the best interest of the City of Canton to establish a fee for activities regulated and enforced by
the City of Canton; and,
WHEREAS, due to the increase of the administrative cost associated with these
activities and the process to regulate and the enforcement of such activities there shall be a fee
established; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That the foregoing recitals are hereby found to be fact.
2. That sections be added in the Canton Municipal Code to establish fee to read as
follows:
Board of Fire and Police Commissioners *Inserted as first paragraph of Ordinance*
2-1-5 EXAMINATION OF APPLICANTS, DISQUALIFICATIONS, REMOVAL: A
fee of fifteen dollars ($15.00) shall be charged to each applicant for a position in
either the Fire or the Police Department of the City. The fee is non-refundable
and is due upon return of the application to the City. Applications returned
without the fee shall not be considered.
*All following paragraphs in this section to remain in full force and effect without
amendment.
Streets, Sidewalks and Public Grounds
8-4-32 PRIVATE DRIVEWAY CONSTRUCTION: It shall be unlawful for any person to make
or construct a private driveway for the use of vehicular traffic into any public
street in the City of Canton, Illinois, without first having procured a permit
therefore from the City Engineer of said City.
Any person desiring to make or construct such a private driveway shall pay a
twenty-five dollars ($25.00) application fee to the building official who shall
forward fee to the City Clerk. Should the permit be denied, the permit fee shall
not be refunded to the applicant. The applicant shall proceed in such private
driveway construction only when a permit therefore has been received in writing
from said building official.
Licenses, General
3-1-20 Criminal Background Checks: Any license issued by the City of Canton that requires, by
State Statue or City Ordinance, a criminal background check shall require the
applicant to pay an additional fifty dollar ($50.00) fee for re-imbursernent cost to
the State, the City of Canton and other agencies for administrative and processing
of criminal background checks. This fee can be adjusted from time to time by the
City Council to reflect the reimbursement cost by resolution.
*All following paragraphs in this section to remain in full force and effect without
amendment.
3. That this Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage by the City
Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, and approval by the Mayor
thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting
this 16th day of September , 2003, upon a roll call vote as follows:
