t•1~iERFsA.S, the Illinois Division of Highways, Department of Public 'dorks
and Buildings, State of Illinois, has previously indicated an interest in
improving the traffic capacity and the orderly movement of traffic on certain
State Aid Routes through the City of Canto n, and
'~dHEI~.EAS, this City Council here assembled is also desirous of improv-
ing the traffic capacity and the orderly movement of traffic on State Aid
Routes through the City of Canton, and
'.dHEF~EAS, the State of Illinois, acting through the Department, of Public
Works and Buildings Division of Highways, has previously offered an agreement
for consideration by the City Council which would have, if fully consummated,
provide for the improvement of State Aid Route 5 Extension kno~rm locally as
Chestnut Street, from ll~th Avenue to the present East City Limits by widening
and surfacing to forty feet, hereinafter referred to as Improvement No. 2, is
desirable to provide safe and convenient access to the City of Canton from
rural areas East of the City, said improvement No. 2 to b~ provided at City
expense up to 25~, the State to pay all other expense;
NO?d THEREFORE BF IT RESOLVED that the City of Canton, acting through
its P~4ayor and City Council, does hereby respectfully request the State of
Illinois to consider the construction of the above described improvement at
its earliest convenience;
BE IT Ft1RTHER It.}~SOLVED that the City agrees to enter into an Agreement
with the State of Illinois whereby the City would contribute up to 25~ of the
cost of said Improvement t~?o. 2;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be send to
appropriate officials of the Department of Public T~Iorks and Buildings, State
of Illinois, and that the Mayor o.f Canton is authorized and instructed to
negotiate with the State of Illinois to solicit their participation in the
above described improvement on terms similar to these described.
