HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution #261.~ R®ads Council, 3/1/60 RESOLUTION WHERAS, The City of Canton in the State of Illinois having year of 1825y~ and X261 is one of the oldest cities had its birth in the pioneer WHE:3.EAS, by virtue of that pioneer birth our city is richly endowed with American Historical lore, and WHEREAS this valuable hostorical lore and heritage should not only be preserved for future generations but should be utilized as well for the attraction of tourist interest and the accompanying busi- ness and commercial benefits; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that there be created for the City of Canton a perpetual~~Canton Historical Commission's consisting of a chairman and four additional members, all of whom will serve without compensation for a term of six years com~aencing April 1, 1860, and to be appointed. by the mayor, with the consent and ap- proval of the city council, and that the mayor of said city shall at all times be an ex-officio member of the commission; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT THE COI~~~ISSION SHALL periodically recommend to the mayor and City Council ways and means of preserv- ing our heritage and utilizing the history of our city for cultur- al, educational, and economic purposes.
