RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois,
has, by Ordinance, provided for the creation of an official City Planning and
Zoning Commission in conformity with the Illinois Enabling Legislation; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Canton, Illinois, has appointed members
of the City Planning and Zoning Commission; and
WHEREAS, said City Planning and Zoning Commission is now duly constituted
and operating; and
WHEREAS, said Commission has determined that for the orderly future growth
of the City of Canton and to prevent the spread of blight, that it is necessary
that comprehensive community planning be undertaken; .and
WHEREAS, the City of Canton has a population of less than 50,000 and does
not have sufficient finances to pay for all of said comprehensive community
planning; and
WHEREAS, the City Planning and Zoning Commission has requested the City
of Canton to request the Illinois Department of Business and Economic Development
(the official state planning agency for the State of Illinois) to enter into a
contract with the Department of Housing and Urban Development for Urban Planning
Assistance for the City of Canton, Illinois, under the provision of Section 701 of
the Federal Housing Act of 1954,. as amended;,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Canton,. Illinois, request
that the Department of Business and Economic Development (the official state
planning agency for the State of Illinois) make application to the Department
of Housing and Urban Development for Urban Planning Assistance for the City of
Canton, Illinois.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Canton provide 33-~1/3Y of the cost
of the proposed planning work.
The above resolution was adopted by the City Council of the City of Canton,
Illinois, at its regular meeting on July 5, 1966.
