RESOLUTION .~ -~~
WHEREAS, it has been noted to the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois
by the Canton Betterment Commission that Arbor Day in Illinois is to be celebrated
on Friday, April 28, 197; and,
WHEREAS, in the interest of furthering and encouraging the beautification
of this City, the Betterment Commission has recommended unto and petitioned the
City Council to designate, by formal action, a period of days in Aprim, 1972 as
Arbor Week and as a time for citizens to be specially encouraged to make approp-
riate plantings of trees and shrubs; and,
WHEREAS, upon consideration, it appears that the City would be best served
by action consonant to and in implementation of the premises hereof,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT AND IT HEREBY IS RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS AS FOLLOWS:
(1) That the period April 23, 1972 through April 30, 1972 be and the same
hereby is designated "ARBOR WEEK IN THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS";
(2) That during this period the citizens of this City be and they hereby
are urged and encouraged to make special effort to plant appropriate trees and
shrubs in beautification of their homes and grounds;
(3) That, further, appropriate officials of this City are likewise urged
and instructed to examine the grounds and holdings of this City and thereon make
such plantings during this period as shall serve the intended purposes thereof;
and,
(4) That the Mayor of this City be and he hereby is authorized, by PROCLAMATION,
to timely publicise "ARBOR WEEK IN THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS", as herein
contemplated, to the end that the spirit and intendments hereof may be and become
widely and generally known in the City. ~~~~
