Fire Chief Jackson, provided his monthly fire report which was self-explanatory. There was nothing to report for ESDA. No further business was discussed and the committee adjourned. Voice vote, motion carried. Clif O'Brien discussed "Project Chance", a work program of the Illinois Department of Human Service. This project gives residents on the job work experience. The city would ~ ~ be required to pay the employee, all. of which would be reimbursed by the state. Each worker would receive minimum wage for fifty hours a month with a 6 month assignment. Each worker would be a state of Illinois employee and would be covered under the state's workman's comp. The city would nQt be required to pay for a physical and would n~ take payroll deductions. Clif O'Brien suggested the city begin with one worker and add additional workers at a later date. Motion by Alderman Hartford, seconded by Alderman Shores to accept the concept of the "Project Chance" program. Lake, Buildings & Grounds Committee Jim Hartford, Chairman There was nothing on the agenda to be discussed and the committee adjourned. Public Works, Water & Sewer Committee Jim May, Chairman Steve White requested approval to purchase two influent valves in the filter gallery at the water plant. These would replace the original filters which currently will not close. Total cost for two, is $2,120 plus shipping. Three other filters will need to be replaced in the future. Motion by Alderman Phillips, seconded by Alderman Shores to approve this expenditure. Voice vote, motion carried. Steve White requested approval to replace the engine in the 1986 Ford truck which the water plant received from the meter department. He recommends purchasing a rebuilt engine with clutch and parts for $1450. Motion by Alderman Phillips, seconded by Alderman Shores to purchase the rebuilt motor, clutch and miscellaneous parts for $1450. Voice vote, motion carried. Motion by Alderman Phillips, seconded by Alderman Hartford to go into executive session for the purpose of possible land acquisition. Roll Call Vote: Ayes: Aldermen Nidiffer, Meade, Sarff, Shores, May, Phillips, Hartford. Nays: none. Motion carried. No further business was discussed in open session and the committee adjourned.
