HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-26-1999 Mechanical Mechanical Committee City Council Chambers January 26, 1999 - 6:30 p.m. Members Present: Jim May, Chet Phillips Others Present: Mayor Edwards, James Elson, Clif O'Brien, Greg Pollitt, George Spahn, Chief Elam, Gary Orwig, Linda Caudle, Jim Snider, Linda Evans, Bob Molleck, David Nidiffer, John Froehling, Chris Clayton Public Safety & Traffic Committee Jo Anne Shores, Chairman In the absence of Alderman Shores, Alderman Phillips chaired the committee. Chief Elam presented a written fire report which was self explanatory. Chief Elam also presented the written police report. ESDA Director, Linda Evans presented a written report and added that next month ESDA will be requesting the purchase of training materials. Mayor Edwards informed the committee members that there will be an Executive Session at the next Council Meeting for the purpose of personnel, at which time the fire chief position and the ESDA will be discussed. Mr. Jett had requested to be placed on the agenda but did not appear before the committee. Item #5, Deferred Comp, was not discussed in the absence of Max Hutton. Chief Elam requested permission to submit an EMS Grant application for the Fire Department with the deadline being at the end of this month. This would allow the purchase of a second defibrillator. The grant provides 100% funding with no matching funds required. Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman May to grant this request. Voice vote, motion carried. Chief Elam requested authorization to send firefighter Tom Shubert to the Fire Department Instructors Conference for training March 15-21 in Indianapolis. 'The approximate cost is $1355. Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman May to approve this request. Voice vote, motion carried. Chief Elam requested permission to purchase two on-board battery chargers for two fire apparatus at a cost of $425 each for a total of $850. This purchase should eliminate electrical problems on both vehicles and will reduce replacement costs in the future. ' y~ ~/' Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman May to approve this expense. Voice vote, motion carried. No further business was discussed and the committee adjourned. Streets & Garbage Committee Chet Phillips, Chairman Mayor Edwards reported receiving a complaint from a business owner in the Industrial Park regarding the completion of the culdesac that was originally planned for the Industrial Park. Clif O'Brien stated that this had been discussed and he thought the cost would be approximately $5,000 which could come from Motor Fuel Tax Funds and TIF Funds. This is informational only at this time. There was no further business to be discussed under Streets and Garbage, and the committee adjourned. Lake, Buildings & Grounds Committee Jim Hartford, Chairman In the absence of Alderman Hartford, Alderman Phillips served as chairman. Greg Pollitt reported that the lake is up 24 inches since the repairs at the spillway were completed. There was no business to be discussed and the committee adjourned. Public Works, Water & Sewer Committee Jim May, Chairman Gary Orwig requested permission to purchase metal replacement doors for the storm building at a cost of $2,000. Motion by Alderman May, second by Alderman Phillips to approve this request. Voice vote, motion carried. Mayor Edwards requested Jim Snider to look into the service agreement on the copy machine in the city building due to the numerous breakdowns of this machine. No further business was discussed and the committee adjourned. Recorded by Linda Caudle (~msworks~memin.wps) 2 ADDENDUM to the minutes of the Mechanical Committee City Council Chambers January 26, 1999 - 6:30 p.m. Lake, Buildings & Grounds Committee Jim Hartford, Chairman City Attorney Jim Elson reported that an easement had been obtained today over a portion of St. Joseph's Cemetery in order that gas and electric lines may be extended to the proposed new storage building being constructed at Greenwood Cemtery. This item will go before council for approval. No action taken by committee.
