HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-25-2001 Mechanical Mechanical Committee Minutes City Council Chambers @ Historic Depot September 25 2001 - 6:30 p.m. Members Present: Jo Anne Shores, David Nidiffer, Robert Molleck, Others Present: Mayor Jerry M. Bohler, Attorney Ron Weber, Dave White, Craig West, Mary Fillingham, Steve White, Gary Orwig, Clif O'Brien, Chief Elam, Chief Stanko, Linda Caudle, Harlan Banister, Bill Phillips, John Froehling Public Safety & Traffic Committee Robert Molleck, Chairman Chief Elam commented on a few items in his monthly report. The department received a check for $573 from a drug arrest made a couple of years ago. He complimented the auxiliary police for their assistance with the Friendship Festival Parade. Chief Elam thanked the students of Lincoln School for the cards they sent to the police and firemen. At a meeting of the school board this week, Chief Elam learned that the school board was very pleased with the COPS in School Program. Chief Stanko provided a written monthly police and ESDA report. He noted that again this month there was a substantial increase in all activities at the fire department. The ESDA delivered meals to the security police at the Army Reserve after the attacks on our country. Chief Stanko thanked the area businesses for their food donations. Canton firefighters along with other entities are sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive October 8th from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Alice Ingersoll Gym. No other business was discussed. The Public Safety and Traffic Committee adjourned. Streets & Garbage Committee Jo Anne Shores, Chairman Joe Moore, owner of Moore's Pub addressed the committee to request permission to close the 100 block of East Elm Street October 6~' from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. for the purpose of a benefit for the victims of the New York tragedy. He would have music until 10:00 p.m. Alderman Sarff said it would be a major problem because of the Spoon River Scenic Drive in Jones Park and at the Depot on that same day. Alderman Nidiffer said it is a really good cause but it puts the city in a real predicament because of the added traffic on East Elm for the Scenic Drive. Mr. Moore said that he would be willing to change the date of the event to October 20th. A Motion was made by Alderman Nidiffer, seconded by Alderman Molleck to approve a request from Moore's Pub to close the 100 block of East Elm on October 20'j' for a fund raiser from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. with the outside music ending at 10 p.m. Under discussion, Mayor Bohler said that the city is for fund raisers and appreciates what the establishments have done but the city must take into consideration the residents of the area. He asked Mr. Moore if the music got too loud if he would work with the city in quieting things down. The motion was called to a vote. Voice vote, motion carried. 1 No other business was discussed. The committee adjourned. Lake, Buildings & Grounds Committee David Nidiffer, Chairman Linda Caudle noted that the nationally famous tour, Motor Ioway 1000 would be on tour through Canton with a breakfast pit stop at the Historic Depot on October 8~' from 9:OOa.m. to 10:30 a.m. Over 200 antique vehicles will be on display in the Depot Parking Area. This is a traveling museum of antique vehicles. Sponsors of a welcome breakfast are APAC, Coleman Pontiac Buick GMC and HyVee Foods. Mayor Bohler informed the committee that there has been some interest in the purchase of the Randolph lot. He asked the committee to consider authorizing the appraisal of the lot and then going out for bids and proposals. He agreed with Alderman Sarff that a minimum bid amount be set after the appraisal is completed. A Motion was made by Alderman Molleck, seconded by Alderman Shores to allow the appraisal of the Randolph lot and advertising for bids and proposals for that property after the land is appraised and a minimum bid be set. Voice vote, motion carried. A Motion was made by Alderman Shores, seconded by Alderman Molleck to add a change order for a new generator to the agenda. Voice vote, motion carried. Bill Phillips of Phillips and Associates informed the committee that the original bid for wiring and installation of the generator for the new city hall building had been negotiated down to $17,462 by making changes in the location of the outside generator. The change order was from the awarded contractor, Leander Construction. A Motion was made by Alderman Molleck, seconded by Alderman Shores to approve the change order from Leander Land for the installation and wiring of the generator in the amount of $17,462. Voice vote, motion carried. No other business was discussed and the committee adjourned. Public Works, Water & Sewer Committee Kevin Meade, Chairman In the absence of Chairman Meade, Alderman Molleck presided over the Public Works, Water & Sewer Committee. There was nothing placed on the agenda for discussion under the Public Works, Water and Sewer Committee. Steve White presented sample colors of purple and gold for the painting of the 4~' Avenue water tower. A Motion was made by Alderman Nidiffer, seconded by Alderman Shores to approve the paint colors as presented for the 4'j' Avenue water tower. Voice vote, motion carried. Linda Caudle reminded the Alderman that the Historic Depot has been rented for Wednesday by the Fulton County Mental Health Center for a public meeting and this Saturday by Scrapbook Dreams for an all day seminar.
