HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution #3919RESOLUTION NO. ~ a i a A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING DE ONORARY DONALDEE. EDWARD wAYAND CHESTNUT STREET) AS THE H WHEREAS, between 1981 and 2001 Donald E. Edwards served as the Mayor of Canton, and prior to that, served as an alderman for ten years; and WHEREAS, during his tenure as Mayor, he heroically led the City through challenging financial times following the closure of International Harvester; and WHEREAS, his direction and leadership led to the former International Harvester property eventually being designated a Brownfield and undergoing clean-up; and WHEREAS, his dedication and commitment to the rebuilding of the former International Harvester property helped pave the way for opportunities like Cook Canton; and WHEREAS, as the longest-serving Mayor in the City's history, he will always be remembered for his courage, vision and unwavering dedication to Canton's citizens; and WHEREAS, he has led by example in his personal life with his commitment to his family, including his wife, Shirley, his three children, Teresa, Bruce, and Betsy, his six grandchildren, and his one great-grandchild; and WHEREAS, he has been a leader in the business community and has set an example of his work ethic with his over 50 years as a barber in Canton. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS, A5 FOLLOWS: Section 1. That Depot Street from Elm Street to Chestnut Street is hereby designated as the honorary Donald E. Edwards Way. Section 2. That the Public Works Director is hereby authorized to implement the honorary street name designation pursuant to the policy. Section 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by the City Council. PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois at a regular meeting this 6th day of Apr i 1 , 2010 upon a roll call vote as follows: AYES• Aldermen did not have a roll call vote.
