ORDINANCE NO. ~j ~ 0
AN ORDINAI~ICE VACATING PARTS OF CHESTNUT STREET, MAIN STREET
FIRST AVENUE AND AN ALLEY IN THE ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION IN
THE CITY OF CAi~iTON, ILLINOIS .
WHEREAS, Chapter 24, Section 11-91-1 et sea., of the Illinois
Revised Statutes provides, in part, that whenever the corporate
authorities of any municipality in the State of Illinois determine
that the public interest will be subserved by vacating any street
or alley, or part thereof, within their jurisdiction, in any
incorporated area, they may vacate that street or alley, or part
thereof, by an ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the corporate authorities of the City of Canton,
Illinois, have determined that the public interest will be
subserved by vacating parts of Chestnut Street, Main Street,
First Avenue and an Alley in the ORIGINAL TOT~TN ADDITION in the
City of Canton, Illinois, described as follows:
CHESTNUT STREET:
Commencing at the Southeast corner of Lot 108 of the
ORIGINAL TOLd1~T ADDITION to the City of Canton, as
recorded in Fulton County, Illinois; thence South
33.0 feet to the centerline of East Chestnut Street;
thence West along said centerline 198.0 feet; thence
South 33.0 feet to the South Right-of-Way line of
East Chestnut Street; thence West along said South
Right-of-Way line 181.5 feet; thence North 66.0 feet;
thence East 16.5 feet to the Southwest corner of
Lot 107 of said ORIGINAL TOGTN ADDITION; thence
continuing East 363.0 feet to the point of beginning.
MAIN STREET:
Commencing at the Southwest corner of Lot 107
of the ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION to the City of
Canton as recorded in Fulton County, Illinois;
thence North 271 feet along an extension of
the West line of Lot 107; thence [nest 16.5
feet; thence South 271 feet; thence East 16.5
feet to the point of beginning.

FIRST AVENUE:
Commencing at a point on the East line of Lot 108
of the ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION to the City of
Canton, Fulton County, Illinois; said point being
59 feet North of the Southeast corner of said
Lot 108; thence North 60 feet along said East
line; thence East 20 feet; thence South 60 feet;
thence West 20 feet to the point of beginning.
ALLEY IN THE ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION:
The North 13.75 feet of Lots 107 and 108 of the
ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION to the City of Canton,
as recorded in Fulton County, Illinois.
The above described streets and alley <~re shown on the
Plat which is attached hereto and made a part hereof; and
WHEREAS, the above described streets and alley and the '
properties contiguous thereto are wholly within the jurisdic-
tion and corporate limits of the City of Canton, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the corporate authorities of •the City of Canton,
Illinois have determined that the relief to the public from
further burden and responsibility of maintaining the above
described streets and alley constitutes a public use or public
interest authorizing the vacation; and
WHEREAS, the corporate authorities of the City of Canton,
Illinois have previously by Ordinance Number 523 adopted a
comprehensive plan for a part of the central business district
of the City of Canton, Illinois, which said comprehensive plan
provides for the vacation of certain streets and alleys; and
PTHEREAS, the vacation of the within described streets and
alley is in conformity with the comprehensive plan adopted by
Ordinance Number 523.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:

1. The following described parts of Chestnut Street, Main
Street, First Avenue and an Alley in the ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION
in the City of Canton, Illinois, be, and the same are hereby
vacated as provided by law.
CHESTNUT STREET:
Commencing at the Southeast corner of Lot 108 of the
ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION to the City of Canton, as
recorded in Fulton County, Illinois; thence South
33.0 feet to the centerline of East Chestnut Street;
thence West along said centerline 198.0 feet; thence
South 33.0 feet to the South Right-of-Way line of
East Chestnut Street; thence West along said South
Right-of-Way line 181.5 feet; thence North 66.0 feet;
thence East 16.5 feet to the SoutY~aest corner of
Lot 107 of said ORIGINAL TO~~TN ADDITION; thence
continuing East 363.0 feet to the point of beginning.
MAIN STREET:
Commencing at the Southwest corner of Lot 107
of the ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION to the City of
Canton as recorded in Fulton County, Illinois;
thence North 271 feet along an tension of
the West line of Lot 107; thence West 16.5
feet; thence South 271 feet; thence East 16.5
feet to the point of beginning.
FIRST AVENUE:
Commencing at a point on the East line of Lot 108
of the ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION to the City of
Canton, Fulton County, Illinois; said point being
59 feet North of the Southeast corner of said
Lot 108; thence North 60 feet along said East
line; thence East 20 feet; thence Sauth 60 feet;
thence West 20 feet to the point of beginning.
ALLEY IN THE ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION:
The North 13.75 feet of Lots-107 and 108 of the
ORIGINAL TOWN ADDITION to the City of Canton,
as recorded in Fulton County, Illinois.
The above described streets and alley are shown on the
Plat which is attached hereto and made a part hereof.
2. Any and all easements for utility services located
within the rights-of-way herein vacated, whether held by the
City of Canton, Illinois, or by some other entity under franchise
or agreement with the City of Canton, Illinois have been
determined by the Corporate Authorities to be no longer
necessary, and accordingly any and all such easements are
hereby terminated and vacated.

3. That the City Clerk of the City of Canton, Illinois is
hereby directed to have a certified copy of this Ordinance
recorded in the Office of the Recorder of Deeds of Fulton Count;,
Illinois.
4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
upon its passage by the affirmative vote of at least three-
fourths of the aldermen of the City of Canton, Illinois and
approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the affirmative vote of three-fourths of the
aldermen of the City of Canton, Illinois and APPROVED by the
