AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CERTAIN SECTIONS OF TITLE 8, CHAPTER 11 OF THE
CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING LAKE CANTON.
WHEREAS, the Public Works and Buildings Committee and the Legal
and Ordinance Committee of the City of Canton, Illinois have determined
that it is necessary, desirable and to the best interests of the City
of Canton to modify and amend certain sections of Title 8, Chapter 11
of the Canton Municipal Code concerning Lake Canton; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has
made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
1. That Title 8, Chapter 11, Section 4 (B) of the Canton Municipal
Code be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"8-11-4: GUARDIAN OF LAKE CANTON: (B) Salary:
The Guardian of Lake Canton shall receive a monthly salary
of two hundred dollars (.$200.00) for each of the months of
April through September (inclusively) for each year."
2. That Title 8, Chapter 11, Section 7 of the Canton Municipal
Code be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"8-11-7: RULES AND REGULATIONS, BATHING:
No person shall enter Lake Canton for the purposes of bathing,
swimming or wading except in such areas hereinbefore or herein-
after specified by the City Council.
The following rules and regulations governing swimming and the
beach area at Lake Canton be, and the same are hereby adopted
by the City Council of the City of Canton, and said rules and
regulations shall have the same force and effect as ordinances
validly enacted:
Rules and Regulations Governing Swimming at Lake Canton
1. Swimming shall be between the hours of eleven o'clock (11:00)
A.M. and seven o'clock (7:00) P.M., and only when a life guard
is present.
2. Alcoholic liquors are prohibited on the beach.
3. No vehicles shall be parked on the roadways leading to the beach.
4. Profane language on the beach is prohibited.
5. All garbage and trash shall be placed in suitable containers
and there shall be no littering of the beach with trash or refuse.

6. Sand fights and other misconduct are prohibited on the beach.
7. No pets shall be allowed on the beach.
8. Nonswimmers shall not go into the water above their shoulders.
9. No smoking shall be allowed in the water.
10. No bottles or other glass containers shall be permitted on the
beach.
11. Picnicing on the beach is prohibited.
12. Orders given by the life guard shall be obeyed.
Any person who shall violate this Section or any provision thereof
shall be ordered from the beach by the life guard or any other
authorized person and shall forfeit his privileges on said beach
for the remainder of the day and if said person fails to leave said
beach as ordered he shall be subject to a fine of not less than
five dollars ($5.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00)."
3. That the remainder of Title 8, Chapter 11, Lake Canton, of the
Canton Municipal Code remain in full force and effect.
4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval
by the Mayor thereof.
