Loa `y- AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 8, CHAPTER 4, SECTION 30 OF THE CANTON MUNI- CIPAL CODE CONCERNING THE NAMING OF STREETS. WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee of the City of Canton, Illinois has determined that it is necessary, desirable and to the best interests of the City of Canton to modify and amend the Ordinance concerning the naming of streets; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has made a similar determination. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS: 1. That Title 8, Chapter 4, Section 30 of the Canton Municipal Code be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: "8-4-30: NAMES OF STREETS: (A) Plan of Naming Streets and Avenues: Except where the City Council finds that deviations are appropriate and beneficial to the City of Canton, the streets of the City shall be named in accordance with the following plan: All streets running north and south parallel to Main Street shall be known as "avenues"; all streets east of Main Street shall be numbered First Avenue, Second Avenue, etc.; all streets west of Main Street shall be lettered Avenue A, Avenue B, etc.; all streets running east and west parallel to Elm Street shall be known as "streets", and shall be named and known after some kind of wood; all short streets running east and west shall be known as "places"; all short streets running north and south shall be known as "courts". (B) Names of Certain Streets Designated: Except where the City Council finds that deviations are appropriate and beneficial to the City of Canton, all short streets running east and west shall be known as "places" and all short streets running north and south shall be known as "courts" and shall bear such names as hereinbefore or as hereafter provided for by ordi- nances of the City." 2. That the remainder of Title 8, Chapter 4 of the Canton Municipal Code remain in full force and effect. 3. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof.
