ORDINANCE N0. ~O U
CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO LAND ORDINANCE
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee of the City of
Canton, Illinois has determined that it is necessary and to the best
interests of the City of Canton to have a Criminal Trespass to Land
Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has made
a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
(1) TITLE: This Ordinance shall be known and may be cited as
the Criminal Trespass to Land Ordinance.
(2) CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO LAND:
(a) Whoever enters upon the land or any part thereof of
another, after receiving, immediately prior to such entry, notice from
the owner or occupant that such entry is forbidden, or remains upon the
land of another after receiving notice from the owner or occupant to de-
part, commits criminal trespass to land.
(b) A person has received notice from the owner or occupant
within the meaning of subsection (a) if he has been notified personally,
either orally or in writing, or if a printed or written notice forbidding
such entry has been conspicuously posted or exhibited at the main entrance
to such land or the forbidden part thereof.
(3) PENALTY: Any person convicted of any violation of the pro-
visions of this Ordinance shall be fined not less than twenty-five dollars
($25.00), nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) for each offense.
(4) EFFECTIVE DATE: This Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect ten days after its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton,
Illinois, approval by the Mayor thereof, and publication according to law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and
