ORDINANCE NO.~ 9(p
AN ORDINANCE INCREASING THE TAX FOR GARBAGE COLLECTION.
WHEREAS, the City of Canton, Illinois has established and does maintain a
system for the collection and disposal of garbage, refuse and ashes in the
City, and for this purpose, has levied a tax; and
WHEREAS, the Finance and Personnel Committee of the City of Canton, Illinois
has determined that it is necessary and to the best interests of the City
of Canton to provide additional revenue for the purpose of garbage collection;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has made a similar
determination; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 24, Section 11-19-4 of the Illinois Revised Statutes pro-
vides that the corporate authorities of the City may levy, annually, a tax
not to exceed .20% of the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department
of Local Affairs, on all of the taxable property in the City, to provide
revenue for the purpose of garbage collection.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON,
ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That a tax of .20% of the value, as equalized or assessed by
the Department of Local Government Affairs, on all of the taxable property
in the City of Canton, Illinois be, and the same is hereby imposed to pro-
vide revenue for the purpose of collection and disposal of garbage, refuse
and ashes in said City.
Section 2. That this tax shall be in addition to and in excess of all taxes
authorized by law to be levied and collected in said City and shall be in
addition to and in excess of the amount authorized to be levied for general
purposes.
Section 3. That the City Clerk of the City of Canton,. Illinois be, and she
is hereby directed to send a certified copy of this ordinance to the County
Clerk of Fulton County, Illinois.
Section 4. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approved by
the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of Canton, Illinois and APPROVED by the Mayor
