ORDINANCE N0. J'~ ~I3
AN ORDINANCE INCREASING THE SPECIAL TAX FOR POLICE PROTECTION.
WHEREAS, the Finance and Personnel Committee of the City of Canton,
Illinois has determined that it is necessary and to the best in-
terests of the City of Canton to provide additional revenue for the
purpose of Police Protection in the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has made a
similar determination; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 24, Section 11-1-3 of the Illinois Revised Statutes
provides that the corporate authorities of the City may levy, annually,
a tax not to exceed .075% of the value, as equalized or assessed by the
Department of Local-Government Affairs, of all property therein, to
provide revenue for the purpose of Police Protection.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAN-
TON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That a tax of .075% of the value, as equalized or assessed
by the Department of Local Government Affairs, of all taxable property
in the City of Canton, Illinois be, and the same is hereby imposed to
provide revenue for the purpose of Police Protection in said City.
Section 2. That this tax shall be in addition to and in excess of all
taxes authorized by law to be levied and collected in said City and
shall be in addition to and in excess of the amount authorized to be
levied for general purposes.
Section 3. That the City Clerk of the City of Canton,. Illinois be, and
she is hereby directed to send a certified copy of this ordinance to the
County Clerk of Fulton County, Illinois.
Section 4. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon
its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and
approved by the Mayor thereof.
