Edwards Way th 50 North 4 Avenue, Canton, Il 61520 A regular meeting of the Canton City Council was held on March 07, 2023 (6:30pm) at the Historic th Depot located at 50 North 4 Avenue Canton Illinois with zoom attendance available. CONSENT AGENDA APPROVAL OF THE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES HELD FEBRUARY 21, 2023 Motion and second were made by Alderpersons Grimm/Nelson to approve the consent agenda. COMMITTEE REPORTS: FINANCE ALDERPERSON ANDRA CHAMBERLIN, CHAIR LEGAL & ORDINANCE ALDERPERSON RALPH GRIMM, CHAIR NEGOTIATIONS, GRIEVANCE & PERSONNEL ALDERPERSON JUSTIN NELSON, CHAIR RD DISCUSS, CONSIDER AND VOTE ON HIRING THE SRO OFFICER THE 23 OF APRIL. nd Chief Eveland explained that initially they were going to start the new officer May 2 which, would have been his first day at the academy. In retrospect, going through the process of rd having to get him into the academy it is going to work out better if they have him on the 23 a week before he goes to the academy. The week before will be for the purpose of getting him set with equipment and uniforms to go to the academy. Alderwoman Lingenfelter asked Chief Eveland if this was going to be a new officer off of his list. The Chief replied, yes. Alderwoman Lingenfelter asked if they had ever received a job description for the School Resource Officers. She stated she believed they were waiting to see that before their vote. Eveland said he provided a copy of that to Attorney Jump. Attorney Jump explained that he did receive a copy and basically the school district approved the expectations we have of the officers. He went on to say that it is really just a matter of going back and doing what was talked about which is, at some point, having a meeting with the union and going through all of the job descriptions and making sure they are up to date. Motion and second were made by Alderpersons Nelson/Lovell to approve hiring the SRO rd replacement Officer one week earlier than initially planned on the 23 of April. Motion and second were made by Alderpersons Fritz/Gossett to approve a resolution for a supplemental engineering agreement for Cass Place structure replacement in the amount of $29,897.00 to come out of the MFT Fund. Motion and second were made by Alderpersons Nelson/Lovell to approve a resolution for a supplemental engineering agreement for cherry street reconstruction in the amount of $7,088.05 to come out ROLL CALL Yes No Absent Alderperson Gossett X Alderperson X Lingenfelter Alderperson Fritz X Alderperson Hale X Alderperson Grimm X Alderperson Lovell X Alderperson Nelson X Alderperson X Chamberlin The motion carried LAKE, BUILDINGS & GROUNDS ALDERPERSON GREG GOSSETT, CHAIR MAYOR COMMUNICATION nd Mayor McDowell congratulated Kennly Smith a Junior in high school for placing 2 at the girls wrestling tournament that was held last weekend. There will be two junior high wrestlers going to State this weekend. Jake Hardesty and Alex Carrier. th Street Superintendent Ronnie Robinson will be retiring May 25 of 2023. Joe Carruthers and the Mayor got together with Dash Wilson, Ronnie and Sean Miller. Dash will be taking the street superintendent position and Sean Miller will be promoted to System Maintenance Superintendent. Mayor McDowell said he will make it official after Ronnie retires. Ronnie has worked for the city for 35 years. The Mayor congratulated him on his retirement. OLD BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS ADJOURNMENT Motion and second were made by Alderpersons Nelson/Lingenfelter to adjourn without the need for executive session.
