HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-19-04 Canton City Council407 A regulaz meeting of the Canton City Council was held on October 19, 2004 in the council chambers at the Historic Depot, 50 North 4`h Avenue, Canton, Illinois. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE OPENED THE MEETING, FOLLOWED BY THE INVOCATION GIVEN BY NANCY WHITES CITY CLERK. Mayor Bohler asked for roll call at 6:30 p.m. Present -Aldermen Larry Sazff, Mazy Fillingham, Bob Molleck, Elny Hazn, Les Cazl, Jim Hartford, Rick Reed, and Craig West. Absent -None. MINUTES OF OCTOBER 5, 2004 MEETING. Motion and second by Aldermen Molleck/Haztford, to amend the minutes of the mayor's communication to add the name of Bazbaza Carpenter as the teacher who spoke. Voice vote, motion carried unanimously. BILLS FOR SEPTEMBER. Motion by Aldermen HartfordlHarn, the' bills for September be authorized for payment as presented. Roll call. AYES -Aldermen West, Reed, Hartford, Carl, Harn, Molleck, Fillingham, Sarff. NAYS -None. 8 AYES, 0 NAYS, 0 ABSENT. Motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT. Patty said she received the Telecommunication Tax this month in the amount of $17,536.00. Alderman Sazff wanted to know for what time period? Patty said for the last month. HEALTH CARE FUND. Budget Administrator Julie Smick remarked that by her estimates the city will have a $180,000 deficient in the Health Caze Fund. This is based on the projections of the current year. City Treasurer Patty Franzoni also passed out her report. Alderman Cazl asked if they could get together and complete one report. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Finance. Council Action Motion and second by Aldermen Hartford/Molleck, to approve payment to United Paving & Construction in the amount of $243,320.00 of MFT funds for street overlay. Roll call. RESOLUTION -CANTON JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB SANTA PARADE ON NOVEMBER 27. First reading, read by title. Motion and second by Aldermen Fillingham/Reed, the resolution be adopted. Roll call. Mayor Bohler mentioned last week the broadcasting of the meeting was not available due to problems with the VCR, now the system has completely shut down.. Joe Ginger is working on the problem and plans to get help later on this week. EXECUTIVE SESSION - VIC MASON BUILDING 66 SOUTH MAIN STREET. Motion and second by Aldermen Fillingham/Molleck, to go into executive session for the purpose of discussing Vic Mason Building at 66 South Main Street. Roll call. The regular scheduled council meeting convened into executive session at 6:58 p.m. The regular scheduled council meeting reconvened into open session at 7:15 p.m. City Attorney Ron Weber read the letter from Kavanagh, Scully, Sudow, White & Frederick, P.C. concerning City of Canton v. Bar - V Enterprises et al. The letter reads...Dear Mr. Froehling: I have received your letter of September 30, 2004. I have carefully reviewed it with my client and wish to make the following counter offer. My client is prepared to offer the City of Canton $4S, 000 in cash, payable within ten business days of acceptance of this offer, in exchange for full release from the City of its claims against Bar - V and the Masons. Please let me know if this offer is acceptable. I look forward to hearing from you. Signed by Dexter Rowe Gruber. (This ends the letter.)
