A RESOLUTION MAKING TENATIVE BUDGET AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC
INSPECTION AND SCHEDULING A HEARING ON THE TENTATIVE BUDGET
WHEREAS,the City of Canton(the "City") has adopted a budget system, in accordance
with 65 ILCS 5/8-2-9.1 through 65 ILCS 5/8-2-9.9;
WHEREAS, the Illinois Municipal Code provides:
The corporate authorities shall make the tentative annual budget conveniently available to
public inspection for at least ten days prior to the passage of the annual budget, by
publication in the journal of the proceedings of the corporate authorities or in such other
form as the corporate authorities may prescribe. Not less than one week after the
publication of the tentative annual budget, and prior to final action on the budget, the
corporate authorities shall hold at least one public hearing on the tentative annual budget,
after which hearing or hearings the tentative budget may be further revised and passed
without any further inspection, notice or hearing. Notice of this hearing shall be given by
publication in a newspaper having a general circulation in the municipality at least one
week prior to the time of the hearing. 65 ILCS 5/8-2-9.9.
WHEREAS, the Budget Director, City Treasurer, and Finance Committee have compiled
a tentative annual budget that is ready for public inspection pursuant to Illinois law;
WHEREAS,the corporate authorities have determined it necessary and in the best interest
of the City to make the City's tentative annual budget conveniently available to public inspection
and to schedule a public hearing on the tentative annual budget.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS,AS FOLLOWS:
1. That the City of Canton hereby finds as fact the recitals set forth above and are
incorporated herein as though fully set forth.
2. That the City Clerk shall publish the City's tentative annual budget, for fiscal year
2022-2023, on the City's website (www.cantonillinois.org) and shall have copies available for
inspection in the Office of the City Clerk, 2 N. Main Street, Canton, Illinois 61520.
3. The tentative annual budget shall be published, as set forth above, at least ten days
prior to the passage of the annual budget. The City Clerk shall publish the tentative annual budget
for inspection, in-person and online, beginning on or before April 8, 2022 at 8:00 a.m.
4. A public hearing on the tentative annual budget is hereby scheduled for April 19,
2022 at 6:00 p.m. at Canton City Hall, 2 N. Main Street, Canton, Illinois 61520. The City Clerk
shall publish information to attend the public hearing via Zoom with the notice for the public
hearing.The above-described notice shall be published in a newspaper having a general circulation
in the City of Canton at least one week prior to the time of the hearing.
5. That no final action shall be taken on the budget until after the hearing is held on
the tentative annual budget.
6. That .the Notice of Public Hearing, substantially in its form as attached hereto as
"Exhibit A," is APPROVED, subject to any further necessary revisions to accomplish the
foregoing;
7. The City Clerk shall ensure timely publication of the Notice of Public Hearing in
accordance with Illinois law;
8. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage
by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois, and approval by the Mayor thereof.

day of April, 2021, upon a roll call vote as follows:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PUBLISHING LEGAL NOTICE
The below Notice should appear once in the Legal/Classified section of the Canton Daily Ledger
on Friday, April 8, 2022 The Notice needs a black border no less than '/4 inch wide and should be
no less than 1/8 page in size. The minimum type size requirement is 12 point font and it should
be published in the Legal/Classified section. Please email a proof to
DPavleyncantoncityliall.org and CKohler@,cantoncityhall.org prior to publication. We would
like to have three hours minimum to proof and call back with corrections if needed. We would
also like one certificate of publication after the Notice of Public Meeting is published.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the City of Canton Illinois that the tentative annual
budget for fiscal year beginning May 1, 2022 and ending April 30, 2023 will be on file and
conveniently available for public inspection at the City Clerk's Office, 2 North Main Street,
Canton Illinois from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. beginning on or before the 8th day of April, 2022.
A copy will also be available on the City of Canton's website at www.cantonillinois.or .
PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that a public hearing on said tentative
annual budget will be held at 6:00 p.m. on the 19th day of April, 2022 at 2 North Main Street,
Canton IL 61520. The public may also attend remotely via Zoom. For those with use the
