HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #1984ORDINANCE NO. 19 8 4 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 12 (PARKS) OF TITLE 8 (PUBLIC WAYS AND PROPERTY) OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE WHEREAS, the Lake, Buildings and Grounds Committee has determined that it is necessary and in the best interests of the citizens of Canton, Illinois to amend Chapter 12 (Parks) of Title 8 (Public Ways) of the Canton Municipal Code in relation to the hours for Jones Park; and WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows: Chapter 12 PARKS 8-12-1: GENERAL CARE OF PARKS: The committee on public grounds and buildings shall have general charge and supervision of all public parks, and shall look after the preservation, repair and improvement of the same. 8-12-2: PARK CUSTODIAN: (A) Office Created: There is hereby created the office of park custodian, who shall be appointed by the mayor by and with the advice and consent of the council at the first meeting of the council in May of each year, and shall hold his office for the term of one year and until his successor is appointed and qualified. (B) Oath, Bond: Before entering upon the duties of his office he shall take and subscribe the oath required by law for city officers, and file a bond in the penal sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) with sureties to be approved by the council, conditioned for the faithful performance of the duties of his office. (C) Duties: It shall be the duty of the park custodian to take charge and care of Jones park, to see that it is kept clean and in good order, that the grass is cut at such times as may be necessary, that the leaves and rubbish are kept well raked up and disposed of, and all buildings, fixtures, trees, shrubs, railings, fountains and other property therein are properly cleaned, kept and cared for. He shall have the powers of a policeman, and shall see that the provisions of this chapter relating to parks are properly enforced. 8-12-3: PARK NAMES: The several public parks, squares and grounds in the city shall be known and designated by the names applied thereto respectively on the map of the city or that may be designated by ordinance. 8-12-4: REGULATIONS OF PARKS: (A) No person shall enter or leave any public park of the city except by its proper entranceways. (B) No person shall enter Jones park or remain therein from the hour of nine o'clock' (9:00) P.M. „+o .,nor +,,,o~„o „~„~,,,.i, ~i ~,ni ~ n .~~, until s1x o'clock (6:00) A.M. 8-12-5: DEPREDATIONS: Neither cattle, horses, goats, swine, poultry or other animals shall be turned or taken into any one of the said parks by any person. All persons are forbidden to carry firearms, or to throw stones or other missiles within any one of said parks, or to cut, break or in any way injure or deface the trees, shrubs, plants, turf or any of the buildings, fountains or fixtures of said parks. 8-12-6: BILLPOSTING: No person shall post or otherwise use or fix any bills, notice or other papers upon any structure, tree, building or thing within either of said parks, nor upon any enclosure thereof. 8-12-7: KEEP OFF GRASS: No person shall go upon the grass, lawn or turf of the parks of the city, except when and where the word "common" is posted, indicating that persons are at liberty at that time and place to go on the grass, unless it be upon holidays and days of public gatherings in said parks, and not then if forbidden so to do by the park custodian or any policeman. 8-12-8: PENALTY: Whoever shall violate any of the provisions of this chapter, or shall fail to obey the lawful orders of the park custodian given in enforcement of the provisions hereof, shall be subject to a penalty of not less than three dollars ($3.00) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each offense.
