HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution #3895RESOLUTION NO. 3 8 9 5 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CANTON WITH REGARD TO IMPLEMENTATION OF THE EMERGENCY INTERIM EXECUTIVE SUCCESSION ACT WHEREAS, the State of Illinois has enacted an act called the Emergency Interim Executive Session Act; and, WHEREAS, such act was enacted, among other things, to assure the continuity of local governments in the event of other natural or manmade disasters and to facilitate the early resumption of functions temporarily suspended, it having been found and declared to be necessary to provide for additional officers who can exercise the powers and discharge the duties of local authorities, such appointees (hereinafter referred to as deputies) to exercise all of the powers and discharge the duties of such offices in the event the incumbents are unavailable to perform the duties and functions of such offices. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Canton that the Mayor, City Clerk, and City Treasurer shall designate by title or in person emergency interim successors and specify their order of succession. The Mayor shall review and revise periodically, designations made pursuant to this Act to insure their current status. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in the event that the Mayor, City Clerk, and City Treasurer are unavailable, the powers of the office shall be exercised and duties shall be discharged by their designated emergency interim successors in the order specified. The emergency interim successors for the Mayor are the City Councilmen in order of seniority. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the emergency interim successor shall exercise the powers and discharge the duties of the office to which designated until such time as a vacancy which may exist shall be filled in accordance with the constitution or statutes, or until the officer or his/her deputy or a preceding emergency interim successor again becomes available to exercise the powers and discharge the duties of his/her office. PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 16th day of June , 2009, upon a roll call vote as follows: AYES: Roll call was not taken.
