RESOLUTION NO. 961
A RESOLUTION COMMITTING THE CITY OF CANTON TO THE RETENTION OF
THE INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER, CANTON PLANT, IN THE CITY OF CANTON
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County,
Illinois, has determined that it is crucial that presently existing
jobs, businesses and industry be retained; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Canton is presently experiencing an un-
employment rate unprecidented in recent years; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Canton, individually, or in conjunction
with the County of Fulton and the State of Illinois, is or may be
able to assist the International Harvester Company, Canton Plant,
or, its successor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That the City Council of the City of Canton is desirious of
doing all that it may reasonably and legally do to retain jobs and
industry in or near the City of Canton.
2. That the City of Canton is ready, willing and able to work
with private enterprise, Fulton County authorities, State of Illinois
authorities and departments, and all other persons to preserve and
protect presently existing jobs and industry in and near the City of
Canton.
3. That, specifically, the City of Canton is desirious of being
of whatever assistance it may reasonably and legally be to the
retention of the International Harvester Company, Canton Plant,
in the City of Canton, or, to any successor owner of such plant.
4. That, in the implementation of this Resolution, the City of
Canton is ready, willing and able to use its bonding powers and other
incentives to retain jobs and industry in the City of Canton, subject,
however, to the City of Canton's receipt of reasonable assurances of
the continuation of existing jobs, businesses and industry in the
City of Canton.
5. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect
immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of
Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, and approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County,
Illinois at a regular meeting this 7th day of September
1982, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Horr, Larsen, Carl, Grant, Sarff, Savill, Hammond,
Kovachevich.
NAYS : None .
