A RESOLUTION AMENDING SECTION 15.6 OF THE "POLICY GUIDELINES FOR
PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION", CITY OF CANTON, APPROVED BY RESOLUTION
NUMBER 796 ON OR ABOUT APRIL 3, 1979.
WHEREAS, the Negotiations, Grievance and Personnel Committee has
determined that it is necessary and in the best interest of the City
of Canton to amend the City's "Policy Guidelines for Personnel Admin-
istration" as the same relates to political activity of City employees;
and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That Section 15.6 of the "Policy Guidelines for Personnel
Administration" adopted by the Canton City Council on or about
April 3, 1979, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"15.6 Political Activity.
City employees shall not work at the polls, circulate
petitions or campaign literature for elective City officials
or be in any way concerned with soliciting or receiving any
subscription, contribution, or political service from any
person for any political purpose pertaining to Canton City
government. Employees who wish to engage in such activity
shall resign from service. Nothing in this section shall be
construed to prevent employees from seeking elective office,
or from becoming or continuing to be members of any political
organization, from attending political meetings, from express-
ing their views on political matters, or from voting with
complete freedom in any election."
2. That, in all other respects, said Policy Guidelines are hereby
ratified and reconfirmed.
3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immed-
iately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton,
Fulton County, Illinois, and approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County,
Illinois at a regular meeting this 3rd day of January
1984, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Horr, May, Carl, Workman, Sarff, Savill, Hammond,
Kovachevich.
NAYS: None.
ABSENT: None.
