HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #0850,, ,~ _~ ~ , ORDINANCE N0. ~ ~D AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 6, CHAPTER 4, SECTION 1 OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING ANIMALS RUNNING AT LARGE AND REPEALING TITLE 6, CHAPTER 4, SECTION 2 OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING CATTLE DRIVEN LOOSE ON STREETS. WHEREAS, the Legal & Ordinance Committee of the City of Canton, Illinois has determined that it is necessary, desirable and to the best interests of the City of Canton to modify and amend Title 6, Chapter 4, Section 1 of the Canton Municipal Code concerning animals running at large and to repeal and delete Title 6, Chapter 4, Section 2 of the Canton Municipal Code concerning cattle driven loose on streets; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has made a similar determination. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS: 1. That Title 6, Chapter 4, Section 1 of the Canton Municipal Code be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: "6-4-1: ANIMALS RUNNING AT LARGE: It shall be unlawful for any domestic animal or animals of the species of horse, mule, cow, cattle, sheep, swine, ass or goat to run or go at large at any time within the corporate limits of the City, and any person, being the owner, possessor or keeper of any such animal or animals, who shall wilfully suffer or permit the same to run or go at large in the City in violation of this Section, shall be subject to a penalty of not less than twenty five dollars ($25.00) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each offense, together with the fees for impounding and the expenses of sustenance for such animal or animals when impounded as hereinafter provided. The fasten- ing or securing in any manner of any of the above mentioned animals by means of stake, tree or other object upon any street, park, common or public ground, or herding the same thereon, shall be deemed a running at large under this Chapter." 2. That Title 6, Chapter 4, Section 2 of the Canton Municipal Code be, and the same is hereby repealed and deleted from the Canton Municipal Code. - 1 - r, ~. 3. That the remainder of Title 6, Chapter 4, Animals, of the Canton Municipal Code remain in full force and effect. 4.
