ORDINANCE N0. ~~ 3
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 9, CHAPTER 3, SECTION 30 OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL
CODE CONCERNING TRUCKS ON CITY STREETS.
WHEREAS, the Streets and Traffic Committee and the Legal and Ordinance
Committee of the City of Canton, Illinois have determined that it is
necessary, desirable and to the best interests of the City of Canton
to amend Title 9, Chapter 3, Section 30 of the Canton Municipal Code
concerning trucks on City streets; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has made
a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
1. That Title 9, Chapter 3, Section 30 of the Canton Municipal Code
be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"9-3-30: TRUCKS PROHIBITED ON CITY STREETS:
All trucks traveling within the City of Canton shall
confine their movement within the City upon State
Routes, except as hereinafter provided.
This restriction shall not apply to trucks normally
classified as one ton maximum and having not more
than two (2) axles.
Except as hereinafter provided, all other trucks
larger than those specified above shall be permitted
off State Routes within the City of Canton only for
the purpose of making local delivery and when such
local delivery is made, said truck shall leave said
State Route to provide the shortest route from the
State Route to the point of local delivery, traveling,
if possible, on hard surface streets, and shall return
after making said local delivery by the same route to
the State Route.
Notwithstanding anything hereinabove provided, trucks
may enter or leave the City of Canton on West Hickory
Street but shall be required when entering the City
of Canton on West Hickory Street to turn therefrom
at its intersection with South Main Street and thence
proceed south on South Main Street to East Linn Street
and thence east on East Linn Street to its intersec-
tion with State Routes at South Fifth Avenue."
2. That the remainder of Title 9, Chapter 3, Rules of the Road, of the
Canton Municipal Code remain in full force and effect.

3. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval
by the Mayor thereof.
