HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #0878i~` '_ ~ ' ORDINANCE NO. v ~ ` 'ice`, ~ AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE DATE FOR INAUGURATION OF NEWLY ELECTED OFFICERS OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS. WHEREAS, on December 1, 1980, Chapter 24, Section 3-2-2 of the Illinois Revised Statutes was amended to provide that the terms of elected municipal officers shall commence at the first regular or special meeting of the corporate authorities during the month of April following the proclamation of the results of the regular municipal election at which such officers were elected, except as may otherwise be provided by ordinance fixing the date for inauguration of newly elected officers of a municipality. This section also provides that no such ordinance shall fix the time for inauguration of newly elected officers later than the first regular or special meeting of the corporate authorities in the month of May following such election; and WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee of the City of Canton, Illinois has determined that it is necessary, desirable and to the best interests of the City of Canton to adopt an ordinance fixing the time and date for inauguration of newly elected officers of the City of Canton, Illinois; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has made a similar determination. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS: 1. The time and date for inauguration of newly elected officers of the City of Canton, Illinois shall be the first regular meeting of the corporate authorities of the City of Canton, Illinois in the month of May following the election. 2. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof.
