ORDINANCE NO. 958
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 3, CHAPTER 8, SECTION 6 OF THE CANTON
MUNICIPAL CODE (RELATING TO THE SALE, AT RETAIL, OF ALCO:I~OLI:C BRVERA4GES
FOR CONSUMPTION ON THE PREMISES IN BUILDINGS FACING THE PUBLIC SQUARE)
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that it
is in the best interest of the City of Canton that the sale, at retail,
of certain alcoholic.,beverages for on-t~he~premses consum~b ion be
allowed in buildings facing or fronting on the Public Square; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That Title 3, Chapter 8, Section 6 of the Canton Municipal Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"3-8-6: RESIDENCE DISTRICT; LICENSE RESTRICTION: It is hereby
ascertained, determined and provided that that portion
of the City lying outside of the territory bounded as follows:
Commencing at the intersection of the center lines of West
Locust Street and North Avenue A, thence running south to
the center line of West Pine Street, thence east to the center
line of South Second Avenue, thence North to the center line
of East Locust Street, thence west to the place of begining,
is predominately a residence district, so that no license
permitting the sale of alcoholic liquors shall be issued by
the Local Liquor Commission within the said residence district
so determined, unless the owner or owners of at least two-thirds
(2/3) of the frontage, two hundred feet (200') in each direction
along the street and streets adjacent to the place of business
for which a license is sought, file with the Local Liquor
Commission, his written consent to the use of such place for
the sale of alcoholic liquors.
It is also provided that no license for the sale of alcoholic
liquor, other than a Class B, Supper Club License, shall be
issued any person for the sale of any alcoholic liquor in any
room, store or other place or building that faces, fronts or
adjoins the Public Square of the City or that has any exit or
entrance thereon; nor shall any license, other than a Class B,
Supper Club License, be issued for the sale of alcoholic
liquor in any room, store or other place above the first or
ground floor of any building or place."
2. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten
(10) days after its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton,
Fulton County, Illinois, approval by the Mayor thereof, and publication
in pamphlet form as provided by law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County,
Illinois at a regular meeting this 7th day of December ,
1982, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Kovachevich, Hammond, Savill, Sarff, Grant, Carl, Larsen.
NAYS: Alderman Horr
ABSENT: None.

the Ordinance and a cover shee_ thereof was prepared, and a cony of such
Ordinance =.aas posted in the Cit-: wilding, 214 E. Chestnut Street, Canton,
Illinois, commencing on December 8th 19 82 and continuing for
at least ten (10) days t'nereaf`er. !Copies of such Ordinance were also
available for public inspection ~~~on request in the Office of the City
Clerk.
