ORDINANCE N0. 915
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 3 OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING
CHAPTER 19: MUNICIPAL AUTOMOBILE RENTING USE TAX
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee, after consultation with
the Finance Committee, has determined that it is in the best interest of
the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois to impose an Automobile Renting
Use Tax; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois
has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON,
Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That Title 3 of the Canton Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding
Chapter 19 to read as follows:
3-19-1: runicipal Automobile Renting Use Tax: A tax is hereby imposed upon
the privilege of using in this City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois
an automobile which is rented from a rentor outside Illinois and which is
titled or registered with an agency of this State's government in this City of
Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at the rate of one percent of the rental price
of such automobile while this ordinance is in effect, in accordance with the
provisions of Section 8-11-8 of the Illinois Municipal Code.
3-19-2: Collection of Tax: The tax provided for in this ordinance shall be
collected from the persons whose Illinois address for titling or registration
purposes is given as being in this City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois.
3-19-3: Payment: The tax imposed by this ordinance shall be paid to the
Illinois Department of Revenue.
2. The City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois Clerk is hereby directed
to transmit to the State Department of Revenue a certified copy of this
ordinance not later than five days after the effective date of this ordinance.
3. This ordinance shall be effective on the first day of the second
calendar month next following publication as provided in the Municipal Code
Section 1-2-4. Certified proof of publication shall be forwarded to the

Illinois Department of Revenue along with the certified copy of this
ordinance required by Section 4.
