ORDINANCE NO. 977
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1, TITLE 8 OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE,
RE-ESTABLISHING THE AUTHORIZED STRENGTH OF THE GARBAGE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has determined that it is necessary
and in the best interest of the City of Canton to reduce the authorized
strength of the City's Garbage Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That Section 4(J), Chapter 1, Title 8 of the Canton Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"8-1-4(J): Employ Laborers, Keep Time: The Street Superintendent,
upon appointment of the Mayor and the advice and consent
of the City Council, may employ the following number of full-time
persons in the Street and Garbage Departments:
1.~ Street Department: 7 full-time laborers..
2. Garbage Department: 3 full-time laborers.
However, nothing herein shall be construed to preclude the Street
Superintendent from hiring part-time personnel on an "as needed"
basis by appointment of the Mayor and the advice and consent of the
appropriate committee. He shall oversee and direct the laborers and
workmen under his authority and require them to labor faithfully.
He shall keep a written record of each such employee's time at work
and shall, weekly, certify such record to the City Clerk as his weekly
payroll, stating therein the name of each employee, his weekly time
and the amount of his wages. The City Clerk shall draw an order upon
the City Treasurer to each employee for such amount."
2. That the Dzayor of the City of Canton is hereby authorized and
directed, as required, to give notice to all effected Garbage Department
personnel as required by law.
3. That the matters and things set forth in Resolution #988, passed
and approved on or about May 17, 1983, are hereby expressly ratified,
approved and confirmed.
4. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its pass-
age by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois
and approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County,
Illinois, this 31st day of May , 19 g3 , upon a roll call vote
as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Kovachevich, Hammond, Savill, Sarff, Workman,
Carl, Horr.
NAYS: None.
ABSENT: None.
