AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1, TITLE 6 OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE,
RESTRUCTURING THE CITY OF CANTON POLICE DEPARTMENT AND RE-ESTABLISHING
THE CITY OF CANTON POLICE DEPARTMENT'S AUTHORIZED STRENGTH..
WHEREAS, the Committee on Negotiations, Grievance and Personnel has
determined that it is necessary and in the best interest of the City of
Cnaton to restructure the City of Canton Police Department and to re-
establish such Department's authorized strength; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That Section 1, Chapter 1, Title 6 of the Canton Municipal Code
is amended to read as follows:
"6-1-1: DEPARTMENT CREATED; MEMBERS: There is hereby established
an executive department of the City government which shall
be known as the Police Department, and which shall consist of one
Police Chief, three (3) police Lieutenants, three (3) police Ser-
geants, tin (10) patrolmen, one non-commissioned traffic control
officer and one secretary-file clerk. Part-time non-commissioned
personnel may be used on an "as needed" basis to work as radio
operators, but only to the extent that full-time commissioned
officers are inadequate to meet such need."
2. The Mayor of the City of Canton is hereby authorized and directed,
as required, to give notice to all effected Police Department personnel as
provided by law.
3. That the matters and things set forth in Resolution #988, passed
and approved on or about May 17, 1983, are hereby expressly ratified,
approved and confirmed.
4. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its pas-
sage by the City Council cif the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois
and approved by the Mayor thereof.

vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Horr, Carl, Workman, Sarff, Savill, Hammond,
Kovachevich.
NAYS: N6ne.
ABSENT: None.
