ORDINANCE NO. 9.7a
AN ORDINANCE REDUCING SPEED LIMITS ON NORTH PARK DRIVE
WHEREAS, the Canton Police Department has made a traffic investi-
gation of North Park Drive within the City of Canton, Fulton County,
Illinois between Canton Park District property on the West and the
West right-of-way line of North Main Street, all in conformity with
Chapter 952, ®11-604 of Illinois Revised Statutes (1981); and,
WHEREAS, such traffic investigation has shown that the existing
30 MPH speed limit on North Park Drive is greater than is reasonable
or safe with respect to conditions existing on North Park Drive; and,
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that it
is necessary and in the best interest of the City of Canton to reduce
speed limits on North Park Drive in the City of Canton; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similiar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That the Canton City Council hereby finds and determines the
foregoing recitals to be fact.
2. That, accordingly, Title 9, Chapter 3, Section 17 of the Canton
Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding the following section thereto:
"9-3-17-1 SPECIAL SPEED LIMIT ON NORTH PARK DRIVE: It shall
be unlawful for any vehicle to be driven or operated
on North Park Drive in the City of Canton between the Canton
Park District property on the West and the West right-of-way
line of North Main Street on the East at a speed greater than
twenty (20) miles per hour. Penalties for violations of this
section shall be as established for speed violations in Chapter
952, Illinois Revised Statutes."
3. That the Street Superintendent shall post appropriate speed
signs informing the public of this Ordinance.
4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately
upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois, approval by the Mayor and publication in pamphlet
form as provided by law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County,
Illinois at a regular meeting this 19th day of April ,
1983 upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Horr, Larsen, Carl, Grant, Sarff, Savill, Hammond, Kovachevich.
NAYS : None .
